So I guess we'll all just send you our AT&T Internet Bills when we go over their newly implemented data usage caps?

You sound like every Mac OS X user is located in the US.

Apparently it's all TomTom, I found another site that said they were supposed to receive their shipment on the 17th as well and that the supplier has yet to update them.
    http://www.provantage.com/tomtom-9uob-017-00~ATOMT043.htm

This all seems like a huge foul up for TomTom. First they promise to release this thing months ago, and it's still not widely available. Now there are talks of google releasing a free navigation app.

With Provantage, the total cost is $101.58 so it's probably worth just hanging out with my current order as its clearly a TomTom issue. I like, and know Provantage and they are a good company, but waiting is waiting. Also, keep in mind this car kit is a good addition even using the new Google app should it arrive someday soon.

While I agree, MobileMe is still in my eyes the best of the bunch. That's how they get away with charging $99/year. However, if it became free, they could really talk up how great owning a Mac is because of MobileMe.

It makes sense to turn it into a free service, considering that Apple now benefits from enough network effects to have MobileMe much more as a "driver" of content and interoperability between its devices than a standalone cash cow...it will probably happen soon.

Geez!!! The Intel Imac has been out since what Janurary? Should the Imac not be the next to upgrade? Will it go with Conroe or Meron? Maybe a better videocard?

    I'm with you -X-

Doesn't the iMac use the same intel chip as the MBP? Why all the hoohah about an impending MBP release, when it might also mean an upgrade for the iMac - which hasn't been bumped since it's announcement in Jan?

Now before I'm lambarsted because the iMac is not a 'pro' machine, I am a professional graphic designer and I am in the market for one.

Bring on the merom iMac!

    Chuck.

American Technology Reseach analysts (http://www.appleinsider.com/article.php?id=1925) provide commentary and predictions on what may come from Apple at WWDC next week.

According to the Shaw Wu, they anticipate that Apple's pro desktop will make the move to Intel, with a 70% chance that at least one of the other Mac models could see a speed bump with use of the recently released Core 2 Duo processor.

Meanwhile, new iPods are not expected due at WWDC - but instead are felt to be released in late September-October.

Apple will, of course, be featuring Leopard (Mac OS X 10.5) at WWDC this year as previously reported. There has been little leaked information about the upcoming version of Mac OS X.

As always, MacRumors will provide live coverage of the WWDC Keynote which will take place Monday August 7th (http://developer.apple.com/wwdc/schedules/monday_am.html).

2010 - Apple Loses #1 Mobile OS spot to Android OS
2011 - Apple pisses off their JB customers and loses 10% more
2012 - Apple loses #2 and #3 spot to Windows Mobile & HP OS

Within 12 months Apple will own the same market share as their computers, 9% ... and it'll have been the same story: rose to glory, abuse the customer and business partners, people get sick of the rulebook and leave for more open pastures.

This is all deja vu from the 80s repeating itself, wow.

I dumped iPhone at xmas, now I'll likely dump iPad 2 if this trend continues. If they really push the washington involvement to stop jailbreaking, I'll get rid of my 3 iMac\MB Air\MB Pro... I don't support companies who attack me. They're here because of me, not the opposite. If they don't get that, adios.
HAHAHAH! Please, be my quest. There aren't enough people with similar thinking to even register on Apple's "oh no" list. They'll continue to grow and put out product after product that will dominate the market. The difference between the 80's and now is the "cool" appeal. People HAVE to have that new Apple product.

Apple makes products that people want. RIM makes products that cause people to point and laugh. Google makes products that they can only sell two for one or give away for free. Microsoft makes products that sit on the shelves until they are sent of to be recycled.

Don't get me wrong, I like Google. Gmail is great and Google is the only search I use. Unfortunately, they don't know how to make mobile devices.

Totally right. Apple is perfect and everyone else should just close up shop... Please get a grip on reality before posting nonsense.

Looks nice as a place to store off site backup type stuff, but I still don't see how all this space as a digital music locker for streaming (again the back up part is nice) is all that viable at this time (Amazon, Apple, whoever) as data is getting capped more and more, and will cost more money as more things look to help you blow past your data-cap.

iTunes on iPhone in auto = no data usage, no interruptions.
iTunes on iPhone in auto streaming = data usage, and stream issues ...3G is not everywhere yet.

It is the future, but I until the US cell company's play ball on a cost effective way to do it (the att/tmoe merger won't help) then I don't see this working so well in the US.

I'm not impressed if this is where the iMac display is potentially going , the current GPUs can barely drive the resolutions they have now in anything other than simple desktop apps . , can you imagine what video card you would need to drive a game (say portal 2 which has low to modest requirements) at 30fps + on a screen with 3200 or higher resloution ? Well whatever that GPU is , apple will ship with the one released 2 years ago and half the RAM it shipped with on the PC .

I love the mac OS , I love the mac design , I hate the "last years tech with a shiney shell" we seem to have to put up with , super high res screens and faster I/O ports are all well and good , but put a decent GPU in now the mac is becoming a contender as a home gaming platform .

Think I ranted a bit then , sorry
    Good post.

Ok then you do not know how to follow the order of operations....ie if you want 2, you have to have another set of parenthesis (so you evaluate it before dividing) or mistakenly think that multiplication somehow supersedes the use of division

Please go back and read my previous posts.

Just to get attention that's all.
I doubt iOS 5.0 or the next iphone will be delayed.
    Nonsense.

I'm not sure.. I do think the iPhone 5 SHOULD be delayed a few months on their part as the iPhone 4 is still selling like crazy and they have not tapped out that market.

it's a lower cost model? Customers that want to pay less buy it, it's not that hard to understand and is done in all industries. You have no point.

Wow. I think you missed the point. At 1199, the MacbookPRO should have a discrete option...hell, POS HP's at 600.00 do.

Oh, and please spare me the snarky "well then enjoy your HP! Har har har" comment.

Is there a link to a site showing that Google logs the tracking info on their servers?

Many of the arguments on this issue seem to centre on the fact that Android's onboard log only stores the most recent entries and then deletes them, but if they're uploaded to Google that would not only nullify that point, but provide an excellent (and legitimately frightening) counter example.

Google does track their users via Adsense/Google Search. That tracking isn't just location data either. I have no idea how accurate their location data is but they get your IP address every time you use one of their sites or see one of their ads so they do have at least that. Adsense is all about targeted advertising. It is naive to think that Google isn't tracking you.

Now, does this make the location database (which has never been shown to be transmitted anywhere/used to track you) on the iPhone correct? Of course not (it doesn't make it wrong either). Might as well have everyone jump off a cliff is someone does it first.

Jobs is making two points. The first point is that Google tracks a lot of your information. This is true, this is how Adsense works by design. It has worked this way for a very long time and people don't really seem to care. The second point is that Apple is not tracking you. This is somewhat of a semantic argument as Apple indeed is not tracking you (again, no one has shown that this database is ever transmitted). The reasonable concern is that someone could take or find your phone and use the database to learn where you frequent. How likely that is can be addressed a variety of ways (encryption, truncation, etc...). Apple probably won't tell us how it is going to address this until they've actually pushed the patch out (and they'll address it, eventually).

Yeah the nerve of Apple and Google!

What do you think they do with the data? Maybe Steve likes to see his herd of iPhones sparkle by the 10's of millions across the planet? I'm sure Google is also setting up the fortress of solitude so they can wield their web ads at will to all Droid's as you meander in your average life!

The nerve of them both and I bet Microsoft is doing this too!

    How freak'n ridiculous.

Yeah, who really cares if someone can see where you've been anyway, unless you are cheating on your wife or have committed a crime. And in the latter case, this information is available from the cell company anyway via a court order.

[url="http://semiaccurate.com/2011/05/05/apple-dumps-intel-from-laptop-lines/"]SemiAccurate claims (http://www.macrumors.com/2011/05/06/apple-to-move-from-intel-to-arm-processors-in-future-laptops/) to have heard that Apple will be transitioning from Intel processors to ARM processors in the not too distant future.

    Interesting rumour.

I heard the other way around, that Apple will be using Intel as its main processor manufacturer (http://www.winbeta.org/?q=news/intel-build-next-generation-processor-ios-devices) for the iPad,iPod Touch, and iPhone, and will more than likely make that switch within the next year.

Reasons may be because of the ongoing lawsuits between Apple and Samsung, which they currently use.

I heard it enough, that it even got slashdotted (http://apple.slashdot.org/story/11/05/03/1357202/Intel-To-Build-Next-Gen-Processor-For-iOS-Devices).

So why go the exact opposite for the laptops when they would still be with Intel for their other devices? It would make better sense to standardize across the board.

    BL.

So one manufacturer Vs the rest, I think there would be something wrong with apple having more dominance than every other (notable) smartphone maker put together..!

Plus, like many have already said, competition is good..!

Now please let iOS five be good..! I get tingly thinking about it..!:D

However, ati does list the 6990 as having a maximum display resolution of 2650 x 1600 per display though it can handle up to 6 displays. There will have to be a change somewhere. (Though you could probably write a program that would allow this resolution). That is still going to max out thunderbolt so you would not be able to drive one of those displays at native with a macbook pro.

Pretty sure again that the limitation is purely a "spec sheet" limitation given that is the max current LCDs do. My GF's miniDVI Macbook has a maximum "spec sheet" resolution of 1920x1200 yet she's plugged into a Dell SP2343W with a native resolution 2048x1156 with no problem. That resolution doesn't even show up on the "spec sheet" but it works fine in practice.

If the hardware really can't push more than 2560x1600 per connection, than since it can handle up to 6 displays of that resolution, I'm pretty sure it's just a firmware update away from enabling higher resolutions over DP 1.2. Again, maybe just something AMD overlooked because of the lack of such displays on the market.

Time will tell, but all the components available today can do it. We're at the point where we are ready to break beyond the 2560x1600 wall for a single monitor.

Now Thunderbolt is indeed a wild card here. Why would Apple limit DP like that though ? I'm betting that in DP mode, if they do implement DP 1.2, you would be able to use the full 21.6 Mbps. Otherwise, it makes no sense...

I agree with the general sentiment of the thread. Mac users should have anti-virus if only to lessen the probability of propagating virally affected material; it is the enemy, not the av companies (well perhaps i'd make an exception for symantec ;))

Sophos has been great from my perspective, used it in one of my old positions for something like 30 workstations.

Trying it on the mac, we'll see if i'll keep it though. I will admit I tend towards the 'I'm on a mac, I don't need AV' side of the fence for the most part even though I completely agree it's a good idea in general :)

MacRumors is keeping up with this obvious error. I doubt Lion will be ready even by the WWDC. A summer release is what I predict.

It's not supposed to be ready by WWDC. Snow Leopard wasn't, it only was for a demo video.

Adopting the metric system doesn't mean other more informal units of measurement will disappear from popular usage. In Australia you order a schooner or middy of beer. In some pubs it's a pint. Teaspoons won't suddenly disappear from your kitchen or your recipes. Fear not.

Exactly what I was thinking. Although glass sizes differ across states in Australia as well. Here in WA if i go for a pub I'll either ask for a pint (a big glass) or a middi, handle, pot etc (small glass) or a schooner (tall glass slightly smaller then a pint) although never have asked for a schooner and see no need.
